The History of Panel Town & Floors
Panel Town & Floors is a complete flooring source with unique roots. Founder, Ed Dillin, started Panel Town in 1967. Before going into the wood paneling and flooring business, he earned a nickname that always stuck with him: the tomato man.
A true entrepreneur, Ed started his first business after persuading a farmer to give him 40 boxes of field grown tomatoes to sell door to door. Soon he was selling out of tomatoes, so he found a prime location by the road for a tomato stand. His hand-painted signs attracted customers from the highway, and the stand became a popular destination for the best-tasting tomatoes around.
After the initial success of the tomato stand, he met the farmer’s brother, Gene, who became a lifelong friend. They formed a successful partnership selling all kinds of produce in Ohio and down through the southern states.

1967 – Present
Ed saved enough money from the produce business to purchase a storefront in Dayton, Ohio. Instead of starting a grocery store, which had been the original plan, he saw an opportunity to stock his store with wood paneling. In 1967, he entered the wood paneling business and founded Panel Town.
Even though he had everything to learn about paneling, trim, and moldings, he set Panel Town apart from the start by providing a golden standard of customer service.
In the 1970s, competition was fierce with the arrival of Mr. Panel, Panel Planet, and other corporate competitors setting up stores nearby. Panel Town outlasted them all by offering the best deals and prices, running creative radio and print ads, and exceeding customer expectations.
Throughout the years, Panel Town adapted with the times to offer hardwood flooring. And in 2006, the business expanded to offer in-demand laminate and vinyl.
The store in Dayton closed, and the main store found a home in Columbus, Ohio where it still is today.
2012 saw the arrival of the online shop, which continues to add products and content online, serving customers in all 50 states and sharing a love of flooring with new people every day.
In 2017, Panel Town & Floors opened The Reclaimed Barn, a business specializing in mantles, ship lap, doors, shelves, accent walls, butcher block, custom furniture, and more. Everything at The Reclaimed Barn is made from real barn wood that’s been treated, fired in a kiln, and repurposed for interior use. The Barn offers timeless products that enhance your living space in unique ways.
Panel Town & Floors is still in the family and remains true to form. Ed’s focus on his customers was ahead of its time and continues to be the main inspiration behind our mission today – making your dream floor a reality!
