Choose between premium solid wood to complement your natural floors, or contemporary metal, such as steel and aluminum, offering a touch of modern-minimalist luxury to your flooring.

A Guide to Floor Vent Sizes

Floor registers come in standard sizes and are rectangular in shape.
Sizes range between 2-14 inches in width and 9-14 inches in length. Depths vary depending on whether the vent is flush or drop-in.
Larger floor registers maximize airflow, however, the size you need depends on your HVAC system and the ventilation needs of the room.
Choose Modern Flush Floor Grills or Timeless Classic Drop-In Vents
Floor vents can be installed flush, almost unnoticeable, or slightly raised with a subtle rim.
When installing new engineered hardwood, laminate, or luxury vinyl (LVP) flooring, consider the preferred characteristics of your floor vents before installation.
Flush floor vents should be fitted during installation of the flooring, as these tend to have a larger depth.
Drop-in vents with a slight rim can easily be replaced or installed at a later date once the flooring is down.

Frequently Asked Questions About Floor Vents
Do You Need Floor Vents?
Floor vents are typically installed as part of a HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system to supply heat and air conditioning to a room.
However, all hardwood floors require proper ventilation to promote longevity and strength. Without good airflow, heat and moisture can disrupt the structural integrity of the natural wood, causing splits or separation.
Floor registers and floor vents ensure adequate ventilation reaches the floorboards, protecting hardwood from damage and ensuring its longevity. Vents are particularly essential in rooms without windows, as natural ventilation tends to be lower.
Where Should Floor Vents Be Placed?
Floor vents are best placed under windows or along interior walls. In kitchens, floor vents are best positioned along patio doors, at the ends of an island, or along the toe kick.
Avoid covering floor air vents with any furniture, like couches, entry mats, cabinets, or plants, even ones that sit just above the floor. Anything that covers a floor vent can disrupt the airflow and reduce the effects of a HVAC system.
What is the Best Material For Floor Vents?
Floor air vents are typically made from contemporary metal, such as steel or aluminum, or solid premium wood. Both types of floor vents are strong and long-lasting. The best material for floor vents really depends on your desired aesthetic.
Choose custom wood floor vents that color-match your flooring, so the grills blend in seamlessly and are almost unnoticeable. Contemporary metal vents are solid, rust-free, and offer a modern minimalist look. They come in sheer black, luxury gray, and clean white, making a subtle statement.
How Do You Secure a Floor Vent Cover?
Floor vent covers are easy to install and remove should you need to clean the vent.
Our metal floor vent covers and some wooden floor grills sit flush to the floor. These should be installed while laying the flooring to ensure a seamless integration.
To install, the floor plank should be cut to the right depth, width, and length of the entire vent, so it can be slotted inside after laying the boards.
Other wooden floor vents are self-rimming or drop-in vents. These have a rim around the edges that slightly raises them above the floor, adding depth to a room. With these floor vents, simply drop the vent into the floor opening and lift them to remove.
What is a Drop-In Vent?
Drop-in vents are floor air vents with a slight rim around the edges. When installed on wood floors, you can see the vents, as the rim sits slightly above the surface of the flooring. They can easily be dropped into hardwood or laminate floor planks and removed for easy cleaning.
Drop-in vents are different from flush floor grills, as these sit flush to the floor instead of above it. Flush vents must be fitted while installing the floors, not at a later date, as they need to be installed deeper below the surface of the planks.
