Frequently Asked Questions about Flooring Supplies
We know you may have questions about flooring supplies. That’s why we have gathered and answered a few of the most common questions we hear about our flooring supplies.
Do I need a moisture barrier for my flooring project?
What is the difference between a sealer and floor finish?
What underlayment do I need for my flooring?
Match the underlayment to the flooring type and subfloor. Floating floors like laminate and many vinyl products rely on foam or rubber underlayment for support and sound control. Over concrete, use underlayment with a vapor barrier attached. If the flooring includes a pre-attached pad, skip the extra layer unless the manufacturer calls for it.
How much flooring adhesive do I need?
Check the coverage rate on the adhesive and follow the recommended trowel size. Both control how far it spreads. Urethane and acrylic flooring adhesives each have different coverage ranges. Rough or porous subfloors use more product, so plan for extra. If you run short, you risk bond failure and delays.
How long should I wait before using or cleaning new floors?
Follow the cure time for the adhesive or finish, not just the dry time. Most polyurethane and water-based finishes allow light traffic within 24 hours but need several days to fully cure. Avoid cleaners and heavy use until the surface sets. Early traffic or cleaning can damage the finish or weaken the bond.
